By our very nature and charter as a credit union, NuUnion exists to serve its members' financial needs first and foremost. It's only natural we should also take a leadership role in supporting organizations and activities that work to improve our members' communities, and their quality of life. To that end, NuUnion provides sponsorships and contributions to many different community organizations, and our employees donate their time, talents, and money to help many other local groups and causes.
As a community-based credit union, the strength of our organization depends on the strength of our communities. This is why it's so important that we give back to the people and neigborhoods that support us. Everything we do to create opportunities and remove barriers–whether it's through our business practices or our community involvements–all contributes to the same goal–helping people attain their aspirations.
NuUnion Teams Up with Local Businesses to Support High Schools for Haiti
NuUnion Credit Union has teamed up with other Lansing area businesses, Citadel radio stations, and high schools across mid-Michigan to help raise money and collect goods for Haiti through the Mid-Michigan High Schools for Haiti project, which runs through March 8.
NuUnion and Shaheen Chevrolet are providing cash prizes to the three high schools that collect the most hard goods and donations. The cash will be used by the students to "pay it forward" in their own communities. One of the winning schools will receive a free concert, courtesy of 97.5 NOW FM.
Participating high schools include Grand Ledge, Everett, Jackson, Holt, Dewitt, Jackson Northwest, Charlotte, Mason, Dansville, Potterville, Webberville, Leslie, and Lansing Catholic Central.
NuUnion is proud to support the compassion these mid-MIchigan high school students have shown for the ravaged country of Haiti, and their initiative to make a difference.
2010 Frost Fest
Over 2,000 people braved the cold weather at this year's 2010 Frost Fest in downtown Lansing on February 13. NuUnion employees volunteered and greeted the glacial guesets who enjoyed a number of winter ativities. The afternoon was full of snowballs, snowmen, and even snowboarders. And at night, NuUnion staff helped run the Euchre tournament. Check out the NuUnion ice sculpture pictured to the left.
Over 500 employees fill new downtown Lansing State Police headquarters
NuUnion recently joined local downtown businesses to welcome the Michigan State Police to its new downtown headquarters with a day of fun, celebration, and bags of treats. A NuUnion gift basket drawing was held as part of the day and won by Sandra Luther of East Lansing (see photo to left).
"We're thrilled to welcome the State Police as our new neighbors and invite them to drop by and get to know us anytime," said Ellen Kent, Branch Manager of NuUnion's Main Office. "We're looking forward to building a strong relationship with them as members."
Toys for Tots Tradition Continues at NuUnion
Every year NuUnion Credit Union displays a Toys for Tots drive collection box in the lobby of each of its 14 branches. Although the container starts out empty, the donated toys that fill it carry the promise of a Christmas morning surprise for local disadvantaged kids. Toys collected at each NuUnion branch stay within the local community. "Knowing the toys will stay close and help a local family makes the program personal; it's a great way to kick off the holiday season," said Michele Krueger, financial relationship advisor at NuUnion's Frandor branch in Lansing. The Toys for Tots program brings hope to the over 13 million children living in poverty one toy at a time. NuUnion is proud to support the annual Toys for Tots drive and the volunteers that make the program successful.
NuUnion Headquarters Opens Doors to “Millionaire Scientists”
A group of Impression 5 Science Center’s “Millionaire Scientists” were granted an all-access pass to NuUnion’s Main Office on December 22. The tour allowed ten students, ages five to seven, an exclusive look inside the credit union. NuUnion staff educated these young visitors on the value of saving and protecting their money. The visit included a trip to the credit union vault and a rare look at the Data Center, a maximum security room that controls all of the credit union’s banking and security functions. The kids completed a number of fun activities and got their very own photo as CEO for the day.
Impression 5 Money Super Saturday
NuUnion and Impression 5 Science Center teamed up on November 7 for the third annual Money Super Saturday. An operational NuUnion ATM and an armored Brinks truck stood out as the coolest spots of the day. Through activities, demonstrations and games, visitors experienced money in a whole new way!
